The Robberg Beach Lodge occupies four villas on Beachy Head Drive in Plettenberg Bay, directly opposite Robberg 5, one of the town’s Blue Flag beaches. It is run as two graded halves, four-star and five-star, which lets one property serve very different budgets from the same beachfront position.

Location
Beachy Head Drive runs along the southern side of Plettenberg Bay towards the Robberg peninsula, and the lodge is on it, opposite the beach. The town’s main street, with its restaurants and shops, is about five minutes by car, and the Robberg Nature Reserve gate is roughly ten.

Rooms and style at The Robberg Beach Lodge
The five-star side runs from economy and standard rooms through luxury rooms and suites to sea-facing rooms and a sea-view suite with a balcony. The four-star side, in the Cottage Pie villa, offers standard rooms, a standard room with pool access, a luxury suite with a balcony and a self-catering apartment.
The style throughout is pale coastal: white, grey and blue, timber and linen, with a lot of light. Rooms are en-suite and serviced daily. Because the villas were built as houses, room shapes and outlooks vary considerably, and the price differences reflect real differences.
Facilities at The Robberg Beach Lodge
There are two outdoor pools, unheated and open year round, two lounges and two honesty bars, a rooftop viewing deck used for sundowners and whale watching, a twenty-four-hour reception, secured parking and an on-site restaurant serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. The seafood platter is the kitchen’s signature.
There is no spa building and no gym. What the lodge sells is the beach across the road and the deck above it.
Who should consider The Robberg Beach Lodge
Consider it if the beach is the reason you are in Plettenberg Bay. Very few properties here are genuinely opposite the sand, and none of the others let you choose between a four-star room, a five-star suite and a self-catering apartment on the same site.

Trade-offs, honestly
Four things to weigh:
- Four-star and five-star rooms sit on the same property. Book the wrong grade and the stay will not match the photographs you remember.
- The pools are unheated, which matters between May and September.
- You are five minutes from the restaurants of the main street, so evenings usually involve driving or a taxi.
- Robberg 5 is an open ocean beach with surf and currents; it is spectacular for walking and not a sheltered swimming bay.
Sea-facing and sea-view categories carry a real premium here, and the difference between them is worth asking about.
Explore the area
Robberg Nature Reserve is the outstanding walk on this coast: a peninsula of folded rock with three route options, from a short loop above the seal colony to the full nine-kilometre circuit out to the point and back across the sand tombolo. Allow four hours for the long version and take water.
Plettenberg Bay has several Blue Flag beaches, and the Keurbooms estuary north of town is good for boat trips and paddling. East of the town, the Crags has a group of wildlife sanctuaries, the Bloukrans bungee bridge and, an hour on, the Storms River mouth in the Tsitsikamma section of the Garden Route National Park.
Getting there and getting around
Most travellers fly to George, about ninety minutes west by road, or drive the N2. Cape Town is roughly 520 kilometres away, about six and a half hours before stops, and Port Elizabeth is around 230 kilometres east. Plettenberg Bay’s own airport takes seasonal scheduled flights.

How The Robberg Beach Lodge compares
Against the landmark hotel on the headland you lose the promontory position and pay considerably less for a comparable stretch of sea. Against the river and country lodges inland, this property trades character and quiet for a beach across the road. Against a self-catering house, you gain a restaurant, reception and pools while keeping an apartment option.
Practical notes for a stay at The Robberg Beach Lodge
Whale season on this coast runs from roughly June to November, and southern rights come close inshore in Plettenberg Bay. The rooftop deck is a genuinely good vantage point, and so is the Robberg peninsula itself. Dolphins are seen year round.
Mid-December to mid-January is the peak, when Plett fills with South African holidaymakers and rates roughly double. March, April, October and November are the best value, with warm water still in April and whales already arriving by late June.

Establish which villa and which grade you are booking, and whether the room is sea-facing, sea-view or neither, because those are three different things. Confirm whether breakfast is included in the quoted rate, whether the restaurant is serving dinner on your dates, and what the current cancellation window is at checkout.
