Then you walk the maximum-security block, including B Section and Mandela’s cell, with a former political prisoner as your guide. That second half is why people describe the visit as difficult rather than enjoyable.
The crossing takes roughly half an hour each way and is frequently rough. Sailings are cancelled outright in heavy swell or high wind, and that decision is made by the museum on the day.
