Langebaan lies about an hour and a half north of Cape Town on the R27, at the heart of the Cape West Coast. The town is built around a sixteen-kilometre lagoon of shallow, clear turquoise water held behind a spit of land, sheltered and calm in contrast to the cold open Atlantic outside it, which is why Langebaan has long been a sailing and watersports base. The town shares its shoreline with West Coast National Park; SANParks opens the park Postberg section for the spring wildflower season, and the lagoon itself is a significant birding site.
