Location
Paarl is the largest of the Winelands towns and the least boutique of the three, built along a single very long Main Street below the granite domes of Paarl Mountain, with the Berg River running through and wine and fruit farms spreading north into Agter-Paarl and Windmeul, east into Dal Josafat and Klein Drakenstein, and south towards Simondium. It is a working town first and a wine destination second, which is part of why it is generally cheaper than Stellenbosch or Franschhoek.

Getting there
Paarl is about 60 km from Cape Town on the N1, roughly 50 minutes by road, and around 45 km from Cape Town International Airport. It is on the Metrorail line from Cape Town and the Shosholoza Meyl long-distance trains stop here, but the town is spread out and the farms are well outside it, so a car is the practical choice. Stellenbosch and Franschhoek are both under half an hour away.
