Cape Agulhas

Cape Agulhas is the southernmost point of Africa, and the accommodation is not at the tip itself but in the villages either side of it. Most visitors base themselves in L'Agulhas, Struisbaai or Suiderstrand, with Agulhas National Park, the lighthouse and the boardwalk to the marker within a few minutes' drive of all three.

The stock runs from self-catering houses to small guesthouses, and the character changes between the villages. L'Agulhas is closest to the lighthouse and the point. Struisbaai, a short way east, is the larger of the two, with a long beach and a working harbour. Suiderstrand to the west is smaller and quieter again, set along the shore inside the park boundary.

These are holiday villages rather than towns, so they fill up over South African school holidays and long weekends and are noticeably quieter outside them. Self-catering is the most common arrangement and often the most practical, because eating out is limited and the shops are small. If you are here for the point itself, anywhere in the three villages works; if you want a beach and more services, Struisbaai is the more straightforward choice.
